In the fall of 2020, WGTE Public Radio began a collaboration with the University of Toledo Department of Theatre and Film to create a radio adaptation of the 1946 Christmas classic, It’s a Wonderful Life. The script was adapted and directed by UT theatre professor Matt Foss while I took on the responsibilities of audio engineer, editor, and producer… and actor (I play Mary).
Although this production occurred during a pandemic, we kept safety as a priority recording each actor individually (socially distanced style) behind plexiglass barriers in the studio. Only three people were allowed in the studio at one time and only after temperatures were taken, hands were washed, and equipment sanitized. We moved pretty quickly, recording over the course of 3 weeks in early autumn.
It’s a Wonderful Life aired December 22nd and 24th 2020 at 8:00 pm on FM 91 is still available to stream online.
